The Houston native joins an illustrious cast with actors of color including Emmy winning actor and director Donald Glover as Simba, Alfre Woodard as Simba’s mother Sarabi and Nigeria's Chiwetel Ejifor taking on the villainous role of Scar. Veteran actor James Earl Jones will reprise his role from the 1994 animated original with the much beloved character, Mufasa.

Many speculated that the new mom of 3 would join the live-action remake over the summer with Variety reporting that the 22-time Grammy winner was the top choice for the role as Nala.
